I hope everyone had a very merry and blessed Christmas as well as a great start into the year 2017. I was caught by surprise at how close we are to spring and the Easter season. It is true; time flies when you are busy and having fun.
The year 2016 resulted in a better financial performance than in 2015 for the Club. The Christmas Fair generated profit, and this last New Year’s Eve surprised us with a sizeable profit too. This momentum is carrying over to 2017. Our bookings are strong, as we have some weddings and other large events booked. Despite a snowstorm, our Hansa Goes Classic was well attended. Ticket sales appear to be strong for the Jaegerball as well.
Something new coming this year is the German Spring Show with performers from Germany on Sunday March 26th at 2pm. We are also evaluating whether or not to partner with another not-for-profit organization to start an annual Mississauga Oktoberfest. I have met with some of the organizers and we are currently reviewing the business case. Our first annual Spring/Easter Fair will be held on Saturday April 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We have many vendors lined up, including some from our Christmas Fair.
If you have any ideas, comments, recommendations or suggestions, please pass them on to the Board. Securing the Club’s long term success is not just the Board’s or my responsibility alone, but is a call on every member. We must stand together to create a club environment that welcomes and respects everyone and that will be here for future generations of Canadians of German descent. If you have a great idea or observed something that didn’t meet your expectations, I urge you to contact me.
Another, equally important word of thanks I need to extend is to all volunteers, Under-groups and our fabulous Staff for their contributions. Your dedication and hard work makes a big difference to this club and is always truly appreciated. Always know that you hold a special place in the Hansa Haus community and I personally thank you for a job well done!
Just a reminder that the club’s Annual General Meeting is on Sunday March 19th 2017 starting at 2:00 p.m. There are elections at this AGM, and we are looking for open minded, loyal, progressive board members who are team players willing to get their hands dirty doing what is best for the Club and always keeping the Club’s best interests first and foremost. Computer literacy is a must for Board Members. I hope to see you at this important meeting.
Minutes from the last General Membership meeting dated October 30th, 2016 are being sent out with the Hansa Post. Please review the Minutes and bring them to the AGM. The 2016 Financial Statements are available for pick up in the Office after March 13th, 2017.
It has been an honour to have served as the President of the GCC Hansa for the last six years. I would like to thank you for the confidence and assistance you have provided. I hope to count on your continued support in the future.
